FML

"[July 29th] So today I woke up hella early in anticipation to download Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the Xbox Live Arcade, because it was just released today and it has been the longest wait ever for this game. The day before I bought points and everything so I can be totally ready to download and play all day today. So I boot up my Xbox 360 and I get the Red Ring of Death. Fuck My Life."

Oh Xbox 360, you have served me a good 2.5 years.

How can I fight Summer boredom with a failed X360?

P.S. Because of today's untimely event there will be no NW post today, as I am too depressed/pissed/shocked to take a blast to the past.

NostalgiaFAG Wednesday Vol. 5: TLC

Okay so again, technically it's really early Thursday morning (3 am), but since I've been awake all day I can still consider it to be really late-night Wednesday, thus this post is valid!

Alright now so for this edition of NW I bring to you a life-consuming toy, well, more like an electronic handheld that millions and millions of kids were obsessed with back in the day, 1 of them including me....I bring you....TAMAGOTCHI.

How your pet looked like when it first hatches from its egg. REMEMBER?!

Ok, so when I got my first Tamagotchi, I just thought it was just another handheld toy, well shit was I wrong. Later on I had found out for myself that taking care of these motherfucking virtual creatures, or "pets" to put it in a nice way, required a lot of patience, dedication, and attention; pretty much some good ol' TENDER LOVING CARE. You had to make sure to play games with your pet, feed it, train it, and pick up its shit...because if you didn't do any of that...a most terrible thing happens...your little virtual homie dies, which is hella sad. Serious though if you didn't feed it, it starved to death, and if you didn't pick up it's shit, the shit actually stacked up, their ain't enough room for stacks and stacks of shit and your pet in that little screen, so it would die of, I dunno, unsanitary conditions? And to top it off the thing had no pause button, so you really had to take care of it genuinely 24/7.

Now it was truly difficult to manage that while you were in school, of course in my case in elementary school. Thing is, you know that it was shit hard to get away with playing with toys like this in class, even if you tried your best tending to your Tamagotchi say like under your desk or something, obstructing it from your teacher's view, but somehow you get caught, or at least I did a few times, leading to confiscation of my pet.

Again as I said, if you didn't take care of Tamagotchi all day everyday, it would die, so during school it was very hard to keep it alive for a long time. Now its a different story when you are on summer break or something, because now you had all day and everyday free to take care of it. Here I took advantage. Cared for my shit everyday, and it was a real treat to see your lil' blob with a face on it transform and grow into a bigger and cooler looking creature. I remember mine having like a duck bill on it with some wings and like it breathed fire and shit, and I was so proud of myself, I felt like a father. Then the inevitable day came....

I remember the day when I turned on my Tamagotchi and saw that tombstone on the screen, and the ghost of my pet flapping its wings with a halo over its head. Holy shit was I devastated. I think it died at the age of 18 Tamagotchi years (1 day = 1 year I think lol), which is pretty damn good I guess. But of course, you had move on. Either restart with a fresh new egg, or go out and buy a new one, especially the hundreds of bootleg ones that came out sometime during the craze lol. I remember getting an alien-themed one haha.

P.S. Digimon pets were cool too, especially battling em with others and tearing their shit up.

Well that's all I got for today, HOPE YOU HAD A NOSTALGIC TIME!

THANKS EVERYONE!

Once again, another milestone. Thanks for the support guys!

Pull the Bow, Strike Away

Today, after a whole month of not having it, me and someone you guys should already be familiar with if you are a regular visitor on my blog, Brian, headed down to Little Tokyo to hit up the Curry House. I did not bring my camera along this time so no pics to post from there, so instead I'll give you a situation on how much I love curry and how I would handle it in the form of Japanese Animation.

Anyway, if you have not left after watching the above video (especially just from its thumbnail lol), while eating our usual dish, Brian brought up a pretty good idea, one I think that should happen before the Summer comes to a close. He suggested to have a reunion of all our friends from back in the day, namely Griffith's Middle School. Since we are pretty much all in different worlds now, whatever it may be that we are doing from college to working or whatever, he wants to gather everybody up that we were close with to catch up, especially because he has not seen most of them for a longer period of time, as he ditched us all to go to Bosco for high school instead of Warren or Downey High. So yeah, the plan is still in its blueprint stages, but if you were cool with us and/or are interested in coming keep in contact.

Of course, couldn't leave Little Tokyo without hitting up Kinokuniya bookstore first. As usual, I picked up my usual magazines, and got some free swag. And now since I'm at home, I can show you whats up.

Smart magazine with the lovely Erika Toda as covergirl with free Supreme slingbag and Street Jack with the cute Akina Minami.

The Japanese are the future! Check out the huge fucking solar-panel on that cell-phone on the right. Charging phones with AC power supply cables are so 2008 (not a reference to a certain Black Eyed Peas song btw).

Mr. Borrayo this one is for you, Evangelion 59/50 New Era fitted hats.

BEASTING

Yea this is old news but I feel like posting now since it's my day off and i'm kinda active right now. Anyways, over the weekend, the largest fighting game tournament EVO took place in Sin City Las Vegas, and for those who couldn't attend (like me), mostly every match for every game was available to view via streaming on the web. The only real thing I tuned into though was the SFIV finals, and to no surprise, in the grand finals we had a rematch between the US's best Justin Wong versus the Legendary Japan player Daigo "The Beast" Umehara. Their matches were very intense, I think had heart attacks each round, and a seizure as well. But in the end, it was probably the greatest, most entertaining grand finals to watch, it seriously went down to the last last match possible, but again Wong failed for the 3rd time to beat his archrival Daigo. They dont call him THE BEAST for nothing. But seriously, props to both players as they both have tremendous skill, and good job to Wong for putting up a real good fight for the 20k+ viewers watching live on the web as well as the thousands in attendance.

Daigo (closest) and Wong in the heat of battle.

It is rare to see a smile on Daigo.

NostalgiaFAG Wednesday Vol. 4: Super Delayed Edition

What's up everybody. So I'm kinda back now, and in my absence and laziness I have missed/skipped a ton of blogging, and to this day 2 editions of NostalgiaFAG Wednesday. So thanks to my co-worker/homie Jesus, he has persuaded me to post tonight.

So here I am with something I'm sure you will remember....that is, if you're elementary school participated. So like fast food joints say all the time when they come out with a new burger or something, this probably happened at PARTICIPATING LOCATIONS ONLY...and my school totally did.

BAM! Behold, the Milk Pouch (Or milk in a bag...whatever you wanna call it).

Now I totally remember when we were first introduced to this CRAZY new product. The Bagged Milk was such a phenomenon, so much that I can say it was a revolutionary thing in the cafeteria food world. Now what happened was that the whole entire school, every grade and every class from K-1 to 5th grade, all faculty and staff, even the janitors were called up to the main hall for a special assembly. I remember asking myself "HOLY SHIT WTF IS GOING ON THAT NEEDS THE ENTIRE SCHOOL IN HERE?!" cuz I knew it wasn't an awards assembly as we just had one the previous day, and I got 2 motherfucking award certificates! (Alright enough bragging) Now of course, with how cheap elementary school was, in the middle of the 100's or maybe 1000's of students sitting down, indian-style on the hardwood floor (which always has been and still is a problem for me because I had/have no ass to cushion me so it always hurts), was that one single tube-TV used by every class, strapped into the squeaky-wheeled utility cart, with that old school VCR still attached, with the name of the school/classroom burnt into them by a soldering tool.

Anyways, the principal comes in, and announces the change from boxed milk cartons to the new clear-plastic pouches, and pops in the instructional video that introduced us to the wonders of the milk pouch, and teaching us the safety measures and how to poke ur straw into the bag to enjoy the goodness of pouched milk. A bunch of OOOOH's and AHHHH's, and lots of teacher's telling kids to be quiet and pay attention.

I was outraged! Not only because I hated the stupid pouches and how inconvenient they were to hold, and how the chocolate-milk pouch was significantly smaller than the regular milk one, but why couldn't they pouch apple juice as well?! Remember the apple juice?! The carton was so god damn tiny, it was like having a shot of apple juice and thats it! They seriously could have at least pouched apple juice to compensate and give us more juice damn it. I needed more juice to wash down my delicious turkey-n-gravy mashed potatoes, the best food the cafeteria had to offer other than those rare Domino's pizza days!

So yeah, if this brought you back in time, I'm glad. This was HUGE back in the day. I guess they made the change so that kids would stop throwing empty cartons at the weaker kids or stop them from stomping on the empty cartons to make that cool exploding popping sound. But yeah if this did not bring you back, be glad, as I would have rather been stuck with the awesome milk cartons as you did.

As always, hope you had a NOSTALGIC TIME!

Guess Who's Back?! (sorta)

Hey whats up everybody?
I've just come back from vacation, so that it why I have not updated my blog in about 2 weeks.
Lots of things just happened, good things that is, like my cousin's Wedding just 2 days ago, it was fantastic and good to see all of the family together. Anyways, I'm back to reality now, namely work work work again. God today was so weird transitioning from 11 days of freedom to the workplace again.

So yeah, I've missed about 3 NostalgiaFAG Wednesdays, and didn't care to blog at all while I was away....but I will make it up soon for any of you who care. And yeah, got lots of things to talk about so if my laziness doesn't kick in in days ahead, this blog shall be active once more!

Later fools.
